The Tangled Thread
A series of works made in response to clearing my mother’s bureau. A muddle of photos, mainly unnamed, are left with half remembered stories in my head. It’s too late to ask her but creates a unique visual elegy, without chronological barriers, enabling me to tell her story as she wanted me to.
Gaps - Dead, dying, divorced, diminished, forgotten, unknown.

The Marriage - married in red, you'll wish yourself dead

Ghosts - whether to release them, this is the question

Snuggling - mothering, grandmothering, snuggling, mourning

Dreaming - of happiness, blissfully unaware of what the future would hold

Before - there was a young girl turning into a woman

The Photograph - The smile was her signature dish

Tainted - was she strong because she stayed?

Gaps - Mind the gap. Dead, dying, divorced, diminished

Circles - a valued addition to the family - with secrets

The Honeymoon - after - the lies continued. The promises broken.

Between - living in silence

Her secret

Dusky - her only loyal and faithful companion

Trousers - It took two to tango , but only one was left to handle the consequences
